Coil Pots

As seen in “Helping Others” Season 1, Episode 2

Supplies

  • Clay (Playdough can be used too)

  • Slip (clay and water)

  • Paper Clip

Steps

  1. Create a base

    1. Roll out a ball of clay and squish it with the palm of your hand or something flat to make a circle

  2. Make coils

    1. Roll out pieces of clay with fingers spread apart to evenly distribute the weight

  3. Score, Slip, Attach

    1. Once you have multiple coils, use the paperclip to scratch the outside edge of the base (this is called scoring)

    2. Apply some slip to the part that was scored. The slip will act like glue and help the clay stick together once it’s dry (if you’re using Playdough, skip this step)

    3. Place down your first coil onto the part that we scored and slipped

    4. Repeat until you use all of the coils

  4. Let your pot dry!
