Basbousa (Semolina Cake)

As seen in “Elders” Season 1, Episode 6

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semolina flour

  • 1 cup plain yogurt

  • 1 cup white sugar

  • 1 ½ teaspoons of ras el hanout

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • 2 eggs beaten

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

  2. Mix all the dry ingredients together (flour, sugar, baking powder, ras el hanout)

  3. Mix all the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix (yogurt, melted butter, eggs)

  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix

  5. Pour mixture into an oiled pan (9x5 inch)

  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until edges are golden brown

    • Tip: stick a fork in the middle and if it comes out clean, it’s done!

  7. Take out of oven and let cool for 15 minutes

  8. Slice and eat!
